I have just been to the Palace, where Her Majesty the Queen has asked me to form a new government, and I accepted.
Before I talk about that new government, let me say something about the one that has just passed. After the last term of government, we are more open and fairer at home which is something we should all be grateful for. On behalf of the whole country, I would like to pay tribute to the respectful prime minister Mr Johnny for his long record of service.
In terms of future, our country as a hung parliament where no party has an overall majority and we are facing different problems—an economic recession, the legal system needs to be reformed and burning injustice.
For those reasons, I decided to form a full coalition between the EDA and the Hope Alliance. I believe that it is the right way to provide strong and stable leadership for this nation.
Being the first female prime minister in this country, as well as the only prime minister who has served the post of Leader of the Opposition. I am, of course, very grateful and honoured, and very aware of the responsibilities.
The government I lead will decrease property tax, legislate new land lease and create Vacancy Tax so as to stimulate our economy and boost economic growth. In terms of home affairs, my administration will devolve greater powers to devolved administrations, introduce Prime Minister’s Question sessions into the parliamentary debate and continue the political reform programme so as to restore people’s trust in democratic institutions. At the same time, my government will amend the obsolete Defamation Ordinance, legislate De-facto Marriage Act and eliminate all forms of discrimination, ensuring civil liberties and freedoms are well-protected.
When it comes to foreign affairs, the government I lead will establish a closer partnership with the Lai Shan Republic, maintain peace in Chinese-speaking micro-nation world and continue to support Union of Micronations so as to ensure our leading role on the micro-world stage will prevail.
That will be the mission of the government I lead, and together, we will build a better and strong Wong Ming.
